Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
"And daily in the temple, and in EVERY HOUSE, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ"
Acts 5:24
This month has been so busy I hardly know where to start! I guess one of the major milestones reached this month concerns getting the gospel into EVERY HOUSE on the South Island of New Zealand. This month we finished Phase II of the letterboxing project! To the best of our knowledge, all 339,640 homes on the South Island - an area the size of Alabama - have been reached with at least one gospel tract! This was a project that we ban back in 1991 and have been completed just this month! We continue to get a steady steam of responses in the post office box - some for salvation and many more requesting information about the gospel or about our Bible correspondence school. Thank you so much for your prayers and for the financial sacrifices that so many of you made to help us reach the lower third of this country with the gospel! Please continue to pray for the many thousands of paper missionaries still out in these homes that cease not to teach and preach Jesus!
For those of you wondering about the North Island, I guess that will have to be Phase III! We are out of tracts and money, so this phase will have to be on the back burner until the Lord provides. There are 954,701 homes on the North Island - between several of the churches up north and ourselves, we have already covered 343,861 of these - which means that there are only 610,840 left! Please simply pray that the Lord will provide the time.
Sometime back we mentioned a lady named Sandra who lives at the other end of the island from us. She responded to a tract we placed in her box and we asked you to pray as she expressed interest in a good church in her area. Since then she has left the charismatic movement and started attending the Independent Baptist Church in Invercargil. I received the following note from her pastor this week: "Our ministry with Sandra (the lady that has been coming as a result of your tract distribution) continues to bear fruit. Sandra has been comming to A.M. services quite regularly. Yesterday and today she as been over for Bible study on "angels". She's brought her unsaved friend, Kelly, and we've had quite a few hours of witnessing to her about her need of salvation. Please pray for both these ladies."
The Rest of the News:
- We had Bro. Fraser Young with us this month, an evangelist from Australia. Bro. Fraser was a blessing to the people and we saw one young fellow named Thomas trust Christ as Saviour.
- As an outgrowth of our Bible Institute and soul-winning class last term, we were able to get four of our people out knocking doors for the very first time this month! The folks seem really excited about trying to win others to Christ. Please pray as we attempt to get our fledgling soul-winning programme off the ground.
- We started our second term of Blenheim Bible Institute this month with 10 "students" out for Life of Christ and Prophecy & Future Events. It is such a blessing to see Christians hungry for the word.
- One brother in our church by the name of "Ant" (for Anthony) believes that the Lord might have him to preach or sever in some capacity of full-time ministry. We had a long talk this month about training, Bible colleges, institutes, etc. and as a result we have set up an individualized, full-time Bible institute training programme for him. We are excited to see what the Lord has in store for this brother - please pray for him (and I) as we work through this material together.
- Another milestone was reached this month as I finished writing the lessons for our Bible correspondence school. This has been an ongoing project that was begun back in May of 1992. We now have a full set of verse-by-verse lessons over the entire Bible. It will of course come in handy training our people as well as being an evangelistic and discipleship outreach throughout New Zealand via the post.
We know have almost 150 students regularly sending in lessons and just as the work has started to get a bit heavy, the Lord impressed upon the heart of one of the ladies in our church to take this ministry over! Sister Donna Burgess has been more of a blessing than she knows in helping me by taking over all of the work in correcting and processing our correspondence school lessons - AMEN!
- Speaking of this same lady, Donna's younger sister passed away very suddenly this month. Rachel was a 39 year old epileptic who apparently had an epilepsy related heart attack near the end of May. Rachel was saved, but a staunch charismatic who had visited our church only once. We have been praying for Donna's dad to get saved for some time and because of Rachel's death and funeral this past week, Debby was the one who was given the open door to witness to "Howard." The fellow seems genuinely open to the gospel as never before and we would ask you to make Howard's soul a special matter of prayer. Sever other saved family members of Donna's are in various stages of frustration with their charismatic type churches - the events of the past week have enabled us to minister to them in a very practical way and we would ask you to pray for God to move these folks to leave the messes they are in and to vist our church.
- The Lord also blessed the church here this month with a couple to take over our teen group. Peter and Diane Pannell have been coming along for some time now - they have worked with teens in the past and are keen to help us out in this area. We had a great meeting this month with 11 young people out for evening of indoor cricket and next month the whole group is taking the ferry and the van north to go to a national teen rally. Being a young church with many raw recruits in our teen group, we would ask you to pray for our very wordly crowd - that God would save the ones that need Christ and would work on the hearts of the rest to sell out to the Lord. This group is the future of this mission church!
- Our church services continue to be blessed of the Lord. We have averaged in the high 30's with a new hight of 48 in early May. Although we still see very few lost people walk off the street, we have had a number of Christians visit who are not in church or frustrated with the pathetic lack of Bible teaching that exists in most of the "churches" here in town. On the last Sunday of May the Piper family, a family of 5, became members of the Marlborough Bible Baptist Church!
The family seems to be doing well, other than the fact that Grace has the measles at the moment. Debby is now six months along and we continue to appreciate your prayers for our new baby. Caleb has just finished first grade in home school and is in Genesis 22 of reading his Bible through. Because we are in the middle of winter here, we will be immediately starting the next round of home school and will take our summer break in December and January. This arrangement is perfectly fine with Luke who is very keen to start kindergarten.
Please pray for the Lord to give us his strength in June as we have a teen grup from Hawaii coming to help us in the work here for several weeks, the trip to the North Island for the national teen rally, several preaching engagements in the churches up north and a host of other projects and plans simmering on the back burner.
We can not say thank you enough for your faithfulness in holding us up in prayer and for supporting the Williams' family in New Zealand - God bless!
