Last Half of March/April 1999
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
"How amiable are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts! My soul longeth,
yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth
out for the living God."
Psalm 84:1-2
The last six weeks have been a great time for wars, rumours of wars, mass
killings, etc, etc, etc. While the world sits around and rings their
hands, we praise God that it all makes heaven sound even sweeter and that
we've got a Book that makes sense of this mess! We also praise God that a
few more Kiwis have gotten a hold of that Book and the truth of the gospel!
The Rest of the News:
1) The biggest blessing of the past six weeks concerns a young couple named
Tim and Tracey. The Lord opened the door for me to give them the gospel in
late March and they both trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour.
They have been to church now several times and are working through a
discipleship course with one of the couples in our church. Please pray for
their spiritual growth.
2) By way of an update on recent prayer requests: Flo has made it clear
that she is no longer interested in talking to us - all signs point to a
"stony ground" profession (Matt. 13). We asked you to pray for Ken and he
has opted to attend a different church in town - he liked our church and
our teaching, but was more keen on finding a wife. Ken is a widower and we
have no eligible ladies his age - it is truly amazing the rationale behind
some people's decisions. We also asked you to pray for Mac and Janice - it
turns out that Janice is indeed saved already; Mac on the other hand freely
admits that he is not. Both have started our Bible correspondence school
course and this has opened the door for me to witness to Mac on several
occasions through the mail - pray for Mac's salvation.
3) One of the ladies in the church asked me to visit an unsaved friend of
her unsaved husband. "Hopper" is dying of motor neuron disease and
amazingly let me in when I knocked at his door. Both Hopper and his wife
Alex listened as I gave them the gospel and asked many good questions.
They are a bit suspicious having had several charismatics come around
trying lay hands on Hopper and heal him. Although neither of them have yet
gotten saved, the door is still open - pray for the Lord to allow this seed
to bear fruit - please pray for Alex and Hopper to be saved.
4) The Bible Correspondence School has had a great run thus far in 1999.
This month we had another "student" trust Christ as saviour. His letter
along with several other partial letters are reprinted below (sorry - only
on the hard copy!). We are averaging 30-40 lessons a week coming back for
grading and continue to find people up and down the country who are hungry
for the word and are not finding much of it in their own communities.
Thank you for your faithful prayers and support - God bless!
Only Because of His Grace,
Jeff, Deb, Caleb, Luke, Grace & Beth
